Premium Cataract Surgery Near Grand Rapids – Personalized Lens Options

Modern cataract surgery does more than remove a cloudy lens. It also gives patients an opportunity to choose an intraocular lens (IOL) based on their eye health, daily activities, and goals for vision after surgery.

At Restoration Eye Care in Wyoming, MI, Dr. Trevor A. Smith offers a range of premium cataract lens options for patients throughout the greater Grand Rapids area. No single lens is best for everyone, so the decision begins with careful measurements and a detailed conversation about the benefits, tradeoffs, and expectations of each option.

Premium Intraocular Lens Options

TECNIS PureSee™ – Extended Depth of Focus

TECNIS PureSee™ from Johnson & Johnson is an extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens designed to provide strong distance and intermediate vision while extending the range of useful vision beyond a standard monofocal lens. It is designed to preserve contrast sensitivity comparable to an aspheric monofocal IOL while providing an extended range of focus. A toric version is also available for appropriate patients with astigmatism.

PureSee may be an option for patients who want a broader range of vision while placing a high priority on visual quality. Near-vision needs and the possibility of still using reading glasses should be discussed during your consultation.

Light Adjustable Lens™ by RxSight – Vision Customized After Surgery

The Light Adjustable Lens™ (LAL®) by RxSight is unique because its power can be adjusted after cataract surgery. Once the eye has healed, a series of in-office ultraviolet light treatments is used to fine-tune the lens based on your postoperative vision and goals.

The LAL requires additional postoperative visits and a specific protective-eyewear regimen during the adjustment period. Dr. Smith can help determine whether the Light Adjustable Lens is appropriate for your eyes and lifestyle.

TECNIS Odyssey™ – Full Visual Range Lens

TECNIS Odyssey™ from Johnson & Johnson is a full visual range IOL designed to support vision across multiple distances. It may be considered by patients who want to reduce dependence on glasses for a variety of daily activities. As with any presbyopia-correcting lens, Dr. Smith will discuss visual goals, eye health, and the possibility of glare, halos, or other visual symptoms.

enVista Envy™ – Full Range of Vision

enVista Envy™ from Bausch + Lomb is a premium full-range-of-vision IOL designed to provide useful vision at multiple distances. It may be considered for patients who want greater spectacle independence after cataract surgery and whose eye health makes them an appropriate candidate for a presbyopia-correcting lens.

PanOptix® Trifocal Lens – Near, Intermediate, and Distance Vision

PanOptix® from Alcon is a trifocal IOL designed to provide vision at near, intermediate, and distance ranges. It can reduce dependence on glasses for many daily tasks, although some patients may still prefer glasses for certain activities. Trifocal lenses can also produce visual effects such as glare or halos, particularly at night, which should be considered when choosing a lens.

Vivity® Extended Vision Lens

Vivity® from Alcon is an extended vision IOL designed to provide clear distance vision along with improved intermediate and some near vision compared with a monofocal lens. Patients may still need reading glasses for small print or close work. Vivity is also available in toric options for certain patients with astigmatism.

Toric Lenses for Astigmatism Correction

Toric IOLs are designed to reduce corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery. Depending on your visual goals, toric technology may be available in monofocal, extended-depth-of-focus, or multifocal lens designs. Precise measurements are important because toric lenses must be aligned appropriately in the eye to provide the intended astigmatism correction.

How Do I Choose the Right Cataract Lens?

The best lens choice depends on more than a product name. Dr. Smith considers your cornea, retina, optic nerve, astigmatism, previous eye surgery, occupation, hobbies, night-driving needs, and how comfortable you are with potentially using glasses for certain tasks.

Your consultation is an opportunity to compare options honestly and decide which balance of distance, intermediate, near vision, and visual quality fits your priorities.
